This course is designed for students who have little or no exposure to the French language and who have the desire to explore the French-speaking world. We will begin to learn the fundamentals of listening, speaking, reading, and writing French. Emphasis is on using the language in conversation. Students will have the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge learned in a variety of assessment formats. Students will also reflect on how learning a foreign language affects them as a global citizen. Study of French speaking cultures, history and geography will also be studied.

The fundamentals studied in French 1 are expanded with continued emphasis on all four modes of communication. There is a greater emphasis put on oral communication and original writing. Students will have ample opportunities to express knowledge learned in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. We will continue to reflect on how learning a language affects us as a global citizen and how these skills can be applied to our lives. The exploration of French speaking cultures is expanded.

The Latin-American form of Spanish is emphasized.

AP Spanish Language and Culture is a rigorous course that requires students to improve their proficiency across the three modes of communication: Interpersonal, Interpretive, and Presentational. The course focuses on the integration of authentic resources including online print, audio, and audiovisual resources, as well as traditional print resources that include literature, essays, and magazine and newspaper articles with the goal of providing a rich, diverse language experience. Students communicate using rich, advanced vocabulary and linguistic structures as they build proficiency in all modes of communication toward the pre-advanced level. When communicating, AP Spanish Language and Culture students demonstrate an understanding of the cultures, incorporate interdisciplinary topics, make comparisons between the native language and the target language and between cultures, and use the target language in real-life settings.
